A heat-sensitive recording medium is made by coating a base material e.g. paper with an initially opaque material which is a colloidal dispersion of a thermoplastic polymer which will set to a gel having dispersed therein larger particles of a thermoplastic synthetic polymer e.g. a polyacrylic ester, polyvinyl propionate, polyvinylidene chloride, polystyrene or polystyrene/acrylonitrile co-polymer. The dried layer is opaque but will become transparent or translucent when heat is applied. The colloidal thermoplastic polymer may be selected from those mentioned above or may be a natural rubber.
