Poly-(o -amino carboxylic acids) are stabilized against degradation by heat by the incorporation of copper and a heat-stable diamide of a dicarboxylic acid. The copper may be in elemental or combined form. The stabilizers are preferably added to the monomer before or at an early stage of the polymerization. Specified diamides are oxamide, adipamide and terephthalamide. In the example, e -caprolactam is polymerized in the presence of cupric acetate and (a) oxamide, (b) adipamide, and (c) terephthalamide. Specifications 652,947, 722,724 and 839,067 are referred to. |
