Use of a nucleic acid coding for a CYP98A9 protein to produce plants with increased resistance to environmental stress

Nucleic acid (I) coding for a CYP98A9 protein is used to produce plants with increased resistance to environmental stress, where the protein has SEQ ID NO:2 (a defined sequence of 487 amino acids given in the specification) or has at least 60% identity to SEQ ID NO:2. Independent claims are also included for: (1) expression cassette comprising (I) linked to a promoter sequence and a terminator sequence; (2) expression vector comprising an expression cassette as above; (3) cell comprising and expression cassette or vector as above; (4) plant or plant part whose genome comprises (I), which is heterologous to the plant; (5) producing modified plants with increased resistance to environmental stress by expressing (I) or increasing expression of (I) in the plants; (6) modified plants produced as above.
