A multi-phase motor and a control method thereof are provided to increase an output by connecting stator coils having the same phase among a plurality of stator coils in a low output operation mode. A multi-phase motor includes a stator(11), a plurality of inverters(13,14), a switching part, and a control part(15). The stator has a multi-phase coil structure. The inverters are connected to each coil in order to supply a power source to the coils. The inverters are modularized with a switching device. The switching part connects coils connected to the inverters of the same phase among a plurality of inverters. The control part supplies a power source to all coils through all inverters in a normal operation mode. The control part supplies a power source to coils connected to inverters of the same phase through one among a plurality of inverters in a low output operation mode. |
