The residual charge on the drum 10 is destroyed by a flood light 46 and any foreign matter is removed by a wiper 47. The machine of Fig. 2 incorporates an endless dielectric band 31 which is cleaned by solvent 42 and wiper web 48. In third and fourth embodiments the drum 10 is replaced by an endless conveyor. If desired the drum may be imaged when the dielectric web is in superposed contact therewith.
