The control system for an expanding small-diameter abrasive tool, especially as used in the treatment of the inner surfaces of hollow workpieces, consists of a limited torque mechanism, situated between a drive which rotates the abrasive rod (2) of the tool and a fixing system (28, 32) which holds the rod to the control system and protects it from excessive torque. The system also incorporates a rod which controls the expansion of the abrasive rod, made in two sections with an elastic coupling between them so that one end section (7a) of the control rod can be connected to and separated from the other by axial movement. ADVANTAGE - Simple replacement of fragile rod tip in event of breakage.
