1,039,272. Variable resistors. G. GL€SEL. June 7, 1963 [Sept. 27, 1962], No. 22869/63. Addition to 903,804. Heading H1S. [Also in Division H2] A resistor comprises a cylindrical insulating support 3 having a helical groove receiving a resistance winding 4 and rotatably mounted at its ends in an insulating housing B, rotation being effected by a screw-driver slot at the end 5. The other end of the support 3 carries a metal collar 7 connected to the winding 4 and bearing against a terminal strip 2, connected to a terminal T. An insulating nut 8 co-operates with the flanks of the helical groove which project beyond the winding 4; alternatively, in a modification the flanks do not so project and the nut co-operates with the winding itself. The nut carries a contact projection 11 engaging the winding 4 so that on rotation of the support 3 the contact 11 moves along the winding, rotation of the nut 8 being prevented by its engagement with the housing B. The contact 11 is formed on a metal frame 9 slidably mounted on the nut 8 for movement in a direction transverse to the axis of the support 3 and biased by a spring 10. A flexible conductor 13 attached to the frame 9 is connected to the other terminal T<SP>1</SP> of the resistor. The housing may be closed by a transparent cover and is mounted on a rail R. |
