[Also in Division G4] As cards are fed in succession to an output hopper, predetermined cards 110 are deflected so that they are offset in relation to the remainder in the stack 20. One device for offsetting cards 110 is a roller 62 which, in its neutral position, has its axis parallel to that of a cooperating roller 60. Energization of solenoid 96 rotates bracket 64 about shaft 80 so that roller 62 becomes inclined to the direction of travel of cards entering the hopper and imparts transverse motion thereto. Alternatively, the axis of roller 62 may be fixed and a braking force applied to the top edge of the selected cards entering the hopper. Another device comprises a ramp which is movable into a card engaging position to force selected cards entering the hopper into an offset position. Selected cards may be offset longitudinally of the stack by means of a stop which is movable to intercept the leading edge of a card entering the hopper. The devices may be controlled by a data processor coupled to a card reader to effect card selection or sorting by offsetting selected cards. |
