A composite panel comprises sheet metal facings 4 secured to outwardly directed flanges of U-shaped bars 3 and a prestressed carrier frame comprising 4 steel members 1 interconnected by turnbuckles 2, and urging the bars 3 outwards, the U-shaped bars being tiltable on the frame members about their longitudinal axis to allow for different thermal expansions or contractions in the two layers. Insulating slabs of-rock wool or mica pressed with waterglass are attached to the carrier frame 1. In a second embodiment (Fig. 4) the carrier frame is urged outwardly by springs. In a third embodiment (Fig. 8) the inner frame forms part of a grid between two slabs of insulating material and the U-section bars are resilient and are connected to the metal sheets whilst in a stressed position. |
