A device for ventilating areas such as kitchens containing a humid and/or greasy atmosphere may comprise a false ceiling having vent apertures. Cross-sectionally arcuate or trough-like channels with longitudinally extending openings arranged with adjacent channels having their openings facing alternately upwardly and downwardly so that the channels engage in each other, but with their edges in spaced relationship. The channels are adjustable to control the flow of air therethrough. Groups of channels can be arranged in frames or boxes which can be attached together to form a continuous false ceiling.
