<p>An anti-ballooning device for a wire or filament (4') being withdrawn over-end from a spool (7) comprises a ring (11,12) concentric with the bobbin, situated close to the upper flange thereof, and carrying a fringe of radially-oriented bristles (13) around its inner circumference. For pairs of bobbins joined tail-to-top to avoid interrupting off-winding when a bobbin is exhausted, two rings may be joined together at one side, with a connecting channel (16) between them, giving an hour-glass form which enables the tail to pass from one ring to the other when the reserve bobbin commences to unwind. The device provides effective balloon control without hindering access to the filament, and remains effective at high offtake speeds.</p> |
