<p>PURPOSE: A device and a method for estimating a position of a robot is provided to easily correct error of an inertial navigation and grasp the exact interior location of the robot by using map information for indoor and a cheap distant sensor for a obstruction detection. CONSTITUTION: The absolute coordinate information of the space where the robot moves is obtained. The relative coordinate information of the space is obtained by moving the robot to the space(120). The coordinate translation information(140) is obtained by comparing the absolute coordinate information with the relative coordinate information. The location of the relative coordinate information is recognized by converting to the location of the absolute coordinate information using the coordinate translation information(150).</p>
