[Also in Division C3] A pharmaceutical composition for treating hypercholesteremia comprises a polymeric reaction product of a polyethyleneimine of formula NH 2 -(CH 2 CH 2 NH) n -H, where n is from 4 to 1,000, with epichlorohydrin, glycerol- 1,3-dichlorohydrin, 1,2:3,4-diepoxybutane, bisepoxypropyl ether, ethylene glycol bis-epoxypropyl ether, 1,4-butane diol bis-epoxypropyl ether or an epoxide of formula where R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or phenyl group, or an acid addition salt of such reaction product, and a compatible edible oral carrier. In examples tetraethylene pentamine is reacted with epichlorohydrin and with 1,2:3,4- diepoxybutane, polyethyleneimines are reacted with epichlorohydrin, glycidol and ethylene oxide, and pentaethylene hexamine is reacted with 1,2:3,4-diepoxybutane; the reaction products are added to foodstuffs, mixed with talc and magnesium stearate and filled into gelatin capsules, mixed with soybean oil and linseed oil gelled with aluminium monostearate, and made into an aqueous suspension with pectin and deionized water. Other ingredients which may be added are mentioned. |
