A lift car 4, Fig. 1, is attached to a carriage 6 which is guided within a polygonal tube 1, attached to a building 3, by wheels 45, Fig. 4, and is raised and lowered by winding gear 14, 16 and cables, only one of which, 8, is shown. The carriage 6, Fig. 2, has a pair of brackets 60, 62 which support the car 4 in a readily detachable manner and brake levers 86, 88, Fig. 3, which are spring-urged into engagement with the inside of the guide tube if the hoist ropes break. Two of the upper wheels and two of the lower wheels on the carriage are pivoted and spring- loaded. The guide tube 1 is built up from separate sections 5, 7, 9, Fig. 1. |
