PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plural part automatic focus detectors which are also usable together with an image recorder. SOLUTION: A laser diode 32 which is a light source for emitting visible light beams or ultraviolet rays is provided, and radiated light is divided into at least three separated beams of the radiated light by one or more hologram optical elements 42 or diffraction optical elements. The radiated light beams are turned to the different parts of a scene to be recorded, and the radiated light reflected from the scene is measured in a photodetector 46. Based on the measured quantity of the radiated light reflecting from the scene, the accurate focal position of the optical system of a camera 6 is determined.
