[Also in Division D1] A composition for coating glass fibres (defined) or impregnating bundles formed from the same, comprises a resorcinol-formaldehyde resin, a vinyl pyridine rubber, a neoprene rubber and a butadiene rubber dispersed in an aqueous medium. Preferably, the composition comprises 2 to 10% by weight of the resorcinolformaldehyde resin, 6 to 20% by weight of the vinyl-pyridine rubber, 12À5 to 25% by weight of the neoprene rubber, 3 to 9% by weight of the butadiene rubber and the remainder water. The composition may also include 0À25 to 1% by weight of formaldehyde, 2 to 5% by weight of a concentrated solution of ammonium hydroxide, and 0À05 to 0À20% by weight of an alkali metal hydroxide, 0À1 to 3À0% by weight of either an organo-silicon compound, e.g. gamma-aminopropyl triethoxy silane or a Werner Complex compound. There are also described elastomeric products comprising a continuous solid phase of an elastomeric material containing glass fibres, treated with the above composition, distributed throughout said continuous phase. |
