PURPOSE:To prevent a card from being damaged, by providing a card separating body confronting a feed roller and having an adjustable gap. CONSTITUTION:The depressing pressure of a depressing plate 13 is reduced in response to a signal sensing a preceding card 11a from a first sensor. The reduction of the depressing pressure is released at the time when the rear edge of the preceding card 11a passes through the front end 15a of a separating plate 15 and then the card 11a is depressed again so that no action is produced in a feed roller 14 which forcibly inserts the front edge of a succeeding card 11b between the inclined surface 15b of a separating plate and the preceding card 11a. Therefore, the damage the front edge of the succeeding card 11b can be prevented effectively.
