PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress shift shock in a case such that engagement of a reverse brake is permitted due to reduction in vehicle speed in a state where the engagement of the reverse brake is prohibited during forward traveling. SOLUTION: A target rotating speed of input shaft of a belt type continuously variable transmission which is set at a return speed V(R) in a state where a reverse inhibit control for prohibiting engagement of the reverse brake during forward traveling is the same as a target rotating speed NI(R) which is set at the return speed V(R) without execution of the reverse inhibit control. When the vehicle speed is lower than the return speed V(R), the reverse inhibit control is stopped. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
