PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously and efficiently beat/disintegrate paper stock. SOLUTION: In an apparatus for treating pulp, a twin-screw extruder E<SB>1</SB>includes a cylinder 8, two screws 7 rotatably arranged in the cylinder, and a rotary drive mechanism 6 for rotating the two screws 7. A supply port 8a provided on the upstream of the cylinder is attached with a forced feed means 5 for feeding a paper stock 1 quantitatively supplied by a metering/discharging means 4 to the cylinder. The cylinder is disposed with a first liquid addition nozzle 11a between the supply port 8a and a beating screw 9 and a second liquid addition nozzle 11b between the beating screw 9 and a disintegrating screw 10, respectively. The paper stock fed from the supply port is beaten with water, the fiber is separated/fibrillated, then the paper stock is disintegrated with a major amount of water, the fiber is uniformly dispersed in water to give pulp slurry 15 for papermaking, which is discharged by a slurry discharge means 14.
