<p>Copper matte is at least partially oxidised and treated with HCl to give Cu2Cl2 and opt. further treated to give Cu or Cu cpds: Further treatment may be: (a) suspending Cu2Cl2 in H2O, passing in air at elevated temp. and separating the produced Cu oxychloride and CuCl2; (b) washing the residue from conversion of cement Cu into Cu2Cl2 with Hcl, removing impurities from the dried product by milling or flotation and subsequent sieving, Cu powder passing through the sieve; (c) filtering off Cu oxychloride from (a) and recycling CuCl2 soln. to react with more cement Cu; (d) treating the remaining residue as in (b), and heating the product to ca. 500 degrees C to give CuO; (e) dissolving CuO in HCl to give CuCl2.</p> |
