Palladium alloy for the baking on of porcelain, esp. for dental applications, contains by wt. 20-45% silver, 0.1-10% of at least one addn. (1) added to increase hardness, e.g. Fe, Ni, Co, the remainder being 50-80% Pd. The alloy also contains 0.1-0.5% titanium. Addn. (1) is pref. 0.1-6.0% Fe, and the alloy may also contain (a) 1.5% max. In and/or 1.5% max. Sn; (b) 2% max. Au and/or 2% max. Pt; (c) 1.5% max Ni and/or 5% Co; and/or (d) 1% max. copper. The alloy is used for dental prostheses, e.g. crowns and bridges, but also for jewellery. The addn. of max. 0.5% Ti improves the adhesion of porcelain and also improves the colour reproduction of the porcelain, without impairing the good melting and casting properties of the Pd alloys. Furthermore, the use of Ti combined with Fe produces a notable increase in hardness. Palladium alloys possess the advantage that they are less expensive and lighter than gold alloys.
|
