In the system in which the suspension passes through a batch filter fitted with a controller which initiates at least one associated operation, and the filtrate passes through a flow meter, the control channel which initiates the associated operation contains an element which calculates the arranged throughput over a period of time as an operational criterion of the filter. The criterion element is connected to the output of the flow meter and integrates its signal, i.e. the throughput over a period of time, and divides the result by the sum of the durations of the filtration cycle and the associated operation. The control channel further includes an optimising device which generates an optimised value for operation of the filter. The optimising device lies between the criterion element and the controller which initiates the associated operation and transmits a signal corresp. to the attainment of the max. value of the averaged filter throughput to the controller. Max. efficiency of utilisation of the filter is attained.
