A clutch setting is provided for the event where unauthorised use of the vehicle is identified, in which the clutch is kept in an at least partially engaged state. The clutch is set to a minimum torque which ensures the transmission of torque to hold the stationary vehicle which can correspond to a holding torque sufficient to prevent the vehicle from rolling away down a slope. The holding torque can be established depending upon mass of the vehicle, transmission ratios and/or gradient of the road.
