[Also in Divisions B1-B2 and C3] A laminated material comprises a fabric base layer, e.g. of jute or cotton, an intermediate layer of agglomerated synthetic resin foam cuttings which has been densified by the application of pressure and a covering layer of a homogeneous mixture of a polyurethane and a polyvinyl chloride. The intermediate layer may be made from cuttings of polyurethane foam waste optionally admixed with foam rubber or polyvinyl chloride foam and an adhesive made from an adipic acid-glycol polyester, methylene chloride, tolylene diisocyanate and optionally methyl cellulose. The fabric may be applied to the intermediate layer prior to the application of the resin mixture; alternatively, a mixture of a polyurethane and a polyvinyl chloride is applied to the intermediate layer and heated prior to the application of the fabric. In one embodiment, the covering layer is made by incorporating powdered or softened polyvinyl chloride in a thermoplastic polyurethane, drawing out the resultant mass into thin strips on a calender, heating the strips and bonding them to the intermediate layer. In a further embodiment, a mixture of polyvinyl chloride paste, a solvent, e.g. ethyl acetate, a polyisocyanate, a polyol and a catalyst is applied to the intermediate layer as a series of thin layers, each layer being dried and optionally gelled prior to the application of the next layer. An acrylic varnish may be applied to the covering layer. |
