A method for controlling conversion of an idle mode is provided to allow a mobile terminal to quickly switch to a normal operation state as necessary when uplink/downlink traffic occurs for an idle mode conversion process of the mobile terminal. A mobile terminal requests conversion to an idle mode by transmitting a deregistration request message(DREG-REQ) to a base station(S51). The base station refuses the request for conversion to the idle mode from the mobile terminal because a downlink traffic to be transmitted to the mobile terminal is generated. The base station transmits a deregistration message(DREG-CMD) to command the mobile terminal to maintain in a normal operation state(S53). Upon receiving the deregistration message, the mobile terminal maintains a normal operation state(S54). The mobile terminal transmits the downlink traffic to the mobile terminal in the normal operation state(S55). |
