PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiving device and a receiving method selecting the optimum amplification for the intensity of a signal subjected to reception processing by properly dealing with both of a continuous fine change of electric field intensity of a received electric wave, and a discontinuous and steep change thereof. SOLUTION: The receiving device 1 includes an AGC circuit 6 for obtaining a desired signal intensity, by comparing the baseband signal intensity and desired signal intensity, cutting off a high-frequency component of a signal intensity comparison signal, and feeding back the signal to a tuner part 2. The AGC circuit 6 detects, from a signal inputted from an equalizing processing part 5, whether a discontinuous and steep change occurs on the received electric wave, and when the detection result indicates an involvement of a discontinuous steep change, feeds back the signal containing the high-frequency component to the tuner part 2.
