A tool holding assembly comprises a tool mounting block 10 and a tool holder 14 having a shank with a cutting insert at one end thereof, the tool holder being clampable in a cavity 12 in the mounting block 10 by an eccentric rod 36 located in a longitudinally extending bore 34 in the block 10 and which engages the top surface of the tool holder through an opening between the bore 34 and the upper surface 20 of the cavity 12. The tool holder 14 has a longitudinal bore 38 therein in which is mounted a rotatable member 40 which has cam portions 42, 44 at respective ends thereof which actuate transverse plungers 50 and 62 respectively which simultaneously co-operate with the side wall 18 of the cavity 12 to determine the transverse position of the tool holder in the block 10. A similar cam operated plunger 84 acts on he end wall 22 of the cavity to determine the longitudinal position of the tool holder. Calibrations are provided on the tool holder adjacent the cam members to indicate precisely any adjusting movement. The tool holder may be preset away from the mounting block whereby no further adjustment is necessary when the holder is positioned in the mounting block cavity. |
