Laser optical guidance system for projectile - has reflector and variable refractive index photoelectric system at transmitter

The optical guidance system for a self propelled rotating projectile has a laser control centre and the projectile is guided along the axis of the laser beam. The tail of the projectile has a radiation receiver for a signal corresponding to the deviation from the optical axis. A coupling system is installed for feedback control. The relatively simple system avoids the use of mechanical components. The laser light is resolved in the transmission centre by an optical system consisting of a circular reflector and a photoelectric arrangement whose refractive index is varied by an alternating voltage generator for varying the aperture angle of the curved reflector.
