<p>An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member (1), an image forming device (60-65) for forming an image on the image bearing member (1), and a transfer charger (40, 50) for transferring the image formed on the image bearing member (1) by the image forming device (60-65) onto an image receiving member (P). The transfer charger (40, 50) includes a transfer member (50) contacted with the image bearing member (1) and a voltage source (40) for applying a voltage to the transfer member (50) to transfer the image from the image bearing member (1) to the image receiving material (P). The voltage which is applied to the transfer member (50) from the voltage source (40), at least during image transfer action by the image transfer charger, is lower than a charge starting voltage of the transfer member (50) between itself and the surface of the image bearing member (1).</p> |
