PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically switch a master PC to a waiting PC when any abnormality occurs in the master PC, and to realize a switching environment which does not depend on the OS or application of each PC. SOLUTION: This switching device for switching a master PC and a waiting PC and connecting the resultant living PC to peripheral equipment communicating by using a USB protocol is provided with a PC monitor unit to whose upstream port the master PC and the waiting PC are connected, and to whose downstream port the peripheral equipment is connected, and this PC monitor unit is provided with a USB hub means to whose downstream side port the peripheral equipment is connected, a switching means for switching the master PC and the waiting PC, and for applying the switched output to the upstream side port of the USB hub means, and a PC monitor function means for receiving a data transfer request signal in a fixed period from the master PC or the waiting PC through the USB hub means, and for controlling the switching of the switch means based on the abnormality of the received signal.
