PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the efficient production of homoallyl alcohol by the reaction of an allyl halide with a carbonyl compound using zinc and provide a method for producing a homoallyl alcohol compound in high selectivity at a reduced cost with improved productivity. SOLUTION: A homoallyl alcohol compound expressed by general formula (I) (R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>7</SB>are each H, an alkyl, an alkenyl or the like) is produced by reacting an allyl halide with a carbonyl compound in an aqueous medium in the presence of zinc and an acid essentially nonreactive with substrates such as hydrogen halide, sulfuric acid and sulfonic acid.
