PURPOSE:To maintain the output performance of a fuel cell, in which an ion exchange membrane is incorporated, high for a long time by specifying the molecular structure of an ion exchange membrane, and limiting the conductivity, the gas permeation coefficient and the moisture content within a specified range. CONSTITUTION:An ion exchange membrane as the electrolyte and a diaphragm of a proton exchange membrane type fuel cell is made of the fluorine polymer material having a unit of cycle expressed with a formula I. In the formula, x=0.1 or 2; y=2 or 3; L/m means a positive number of 0-10. Conductivity at 25 deg.C; 0.11-0.30OMEGA<-1>.cm<-1>, hydrogen gas permeation coefficient at 40 deg.C; 9.0X10<-9>-24.0X10<-9>cc.cm/(cm<2>.sec.cmHg), oxygen gas permeation coefficient at 40 deg.C; 5.0X10<-9>-11.0X10<-9>cc.cm/(cm<2>.sec.cmHg), and moisture content at 100-250% by weight. |
