<p>A flexible material such as garment fabric to be protected against theft is clamped into a lockable security tag (1). A decoupler, e.g., a key (2), can be inserted into a key hole (6) formed in the security tag (1) for releasing the lock and to remove the tag (1) from the garment item. The key (2) thereby has a shape which complements a member of the cam mechanism (9, 10) so as to allow the cam (9, 10) to be operated with the key (2). A given decoupler (key 2) is matched to a given batch of security tags (1), and the given decoupler (2) is not matched to another different batch of security tags (1). A certain store, therefore, has a matched decoupler (2) for its tags (1) while another store has a different decoupler (2) which is matched to a different batch. The security tag (1) is thereby provided with a number of pins or prongs (9) which break of bend back if an incorrect key (2) is inserted or if someone attempts to pick the lock.</p> |
