PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To house a liquid crystal display element using a substrate formed by providing a gas barrier layer on a flexible substrate supporting material such as a plastic film in a chassis in a highly hermetic state without increasing its external form tolerance. SOLUTION: In a recessed part of the chassis 10 housing the liquid crystal display element, a hermetic member 19 is injected in a gap between a wall surface of the recessed part and an end surface of the liquid crystal display element. The external form tolerance is not increased since an application step of the hermetic member is eliminated and high hermetic properties can be maintained since the hermetic member 19 is made thick.
