1,273,586. Bacterial polysaccharides. INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES CHIMIQUES ET BIOLOGIQUES APPLIQUEES. 8 July, 1969 [10 July, 1968], No. 34306/69. Heading A5B. [Also in Division C3] A pharmaceutically active polysaccharide composition is prepared by a method which comprises a) separately cultivating the following thirteen bacteria strains in nutrient medium: Staphylococcus aureus 634, 636, 659, Proteus vulgaris 1557, 1561, 1565, Escherichia coli 1539, 418, 430, 492 and Aerobacter aerogenes 809, 811, 812 (wherein the code numbers refer to the strains so catalogued by the Centre International de Distribution de souches et d'Information sur les types microbiens de Lausanne); (b) separating the polysaccharides produced by each of the strains from the nutrient medium by adsorbing them on an adsorbing agent; (c) eluting the polysaccharides and separating them from the eluate; and (d) combining the polysaccharides produced by the 13 separate cultivations. The polysaccharides may instead be separated from the nutrient by dialysis. A pharmaceutical carrier may be added and the product may be in dosage unit form or in the form of a syrup, spray, gelule, suppository, &c.
|
