Mounting system for starter for internal combustion engine

The starter motor (1) is mounted in the internal combustion engine at some distance from the flywheel (20) with teeth (7) which are engaged by the teeth (6) of a small pinion which may be moved into engagement or withdrawn from engagement by a magnetic actuator (8) which moves a lever (8) on a centre pivot. The other end of the lever engages a collar on the shaft for the pinion. The housing (21) for the motor and actuator has the end surrounding the pinion shaped as a round plug fitting into a mounting ring (22) which fits into a housing (16) on the engine. The starter motor housing and the mounting ring are held in place by bolts and are modified so that the sealing O-ring now fits into a groove (22c) in the end face of the mounting ring.
