A safety device for small arms, which comprises a safety lever and a trigger device connected with the safety device. The safety lever is pivotally mounted on the underside of the small arms directly in front of the trigger device crosswise to the operation plane of the latter. The safety lever includes a part differently limiting the movement range of the trigger device depending upon the position of the safety lever, whereby the function positions of the safety lever are disposed symmetrically on both sides thereto, starting from the vertical median plane of the small arms.
