A device 102 includes a digital tights management (DRM) agent 104 to manage access to a content object 126 based on a rights object (RO) 130 related to the content, wherein based on at least one restriction 136 defined in the rights object, the agent causes the device to present supplemental content 142 of at least one supplemental content object 138 when the content object is utilized. The supplemental content may be an advertisement. The invention thereby forces the presentation of advertisements prior to allowing access to secured content. The supplemental content may be presented on the basis of presentation conditions 172 which may include a timing condition defining one or more allowed time periods to present the supplemental content and a count condition defining an allowed number of presentations of the supplemental content. The advertisements may be replaced throughout the "lifetime" of the content object. |
