Stable latex is produced by reacting copolymer of ethylene and acrylic and/or methacrylic acid and opt. their esters, containing 5-75 wt.% (meth)acrylic acid units and having (eta) value of 0.05-1.5 (in cyclohexanone at 100 degrees C) in H2O and opt. solvent with 20-100% equiv. amount (referred to carboxyl groups in copolymer) of alkanolamine as base, pref. primary and/or sec. alkanolamine, esp. mono- and/or di-ethanolamine. This latex can be used for coating paper, textiles, metals, wood and ceramics. The coatings have very good adhesion and can be heat sealed if dried below 120 degrees C. |
