Stand for supporting clock gauge on machine tool - has hydraulic clamp to retain arms in required positions

The pieces produced on a machine tool are dimensionally checked by a clock gauge whilst the workpieces are still on the machine. The clock gauge is supported on a stand which has two inner arms (1,2) which are pivoted together by a special bolt (5). Each arm has a second arm (17) attached to its outer end by a ball joint. The bolt has an axial bore for a piston (10). When the clamping screw (9) is rotated, the piston forces oil through passageways in the bolt so that an axial clamping force is exerted on the arms. In addition oil is forced through the longitudinal holes in each arm to exert a clamping force on the ball joints of the outer arms.
