There is a tunnel (34) passing transversely through the machine bed (1) under the table guideways (4). The drive motor (32) for the infeed movement of the grinding slide (22) is housed in the tunnel. A removable cover plate (49) closes off the tunnel on the opposite side of the bed. The motor (32) is endface mounted on a bracket (36) in co-axial alignment with the infeed leadscrew (28). The infeed drive embracing leadscrew, nut and motor is easily assembled and dismantled from the operator side of the bed. USE/ADVANTAGE - External cylindrical grinding machine has small depth dimension. Infeed mechanism is easily accessible for maintenance.
