<p>Gaseous nuclear reaction in which an ionised gas stream is accelerated through a triple bank of Mo, Ta or W foil windows separating consecutively linked gas chambers. The chambers are separately gas filled, pressurised and circulated with pressure differentials across the foils of 3 to 4 atm. and main chamber pressure at 10 atm. Reaction heat is removed by a heat exchanger in the gas circulation system and by circumferential cooling coils around the gas chambers. In the event of foil failure gas chamber isolation is effected by a quick closing valve and foils blank the accelerator outlet enabling the chambers to be evacuated. Multiple thin foils promote heat dissipation and plant safety is enhanced by the multiple foil, chamber construction.</p> |
