A rotary positive-displacement pump or motor of the kind having a working space between the circumference of one and the bore of the other of two relative rotatable members having coincident or parallel axes and vanes slidable in slots in one of the members to maintain contact with the other member and dividing the working space into a number of chambers, includes in each vane slot a helical spring lengthwise disposed in the direction of the axes and a cam element urged by the spring in an axial direction on to an inclined cam surface in the transverse plane of the vane to produce a reaction face on the bottom of the slot urging the vane into sealing contact with said other member. As described, a rotor 3, Fig. 2, rotates about an axis concentric with the axis of a casing 1 of elongated cross-section so that the rotor abuts the casing at two opposite locations. Vanes 7 radially slidable in axially extending slots have longitudinal recesses 9 with inclined end faces or cam surfaces 10 against which ball cam elements 11 are urged by a helical spring 12 disposed in a longitudinal direction with respect to the slot. The slot at its root is formed with a longitudinal bore 8 or diameter slightly larger than the width of the slot to receive the spring and balls. |
