PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording medium applicable to cards or labels and excellent in storage stability by providing a thermal color forming layer based on a specific leuco dye, a specific developer and a binder soluble in an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon solvent on a support. CONSTITUTION:A thermal color forming layer based on a leuco dye represented by formula I, a developer represented by formula II (wherein R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl group and R2 is hydrogen, an alkyl group or a benzyl group) allowing the leuco dye to form a color at the time of heating and a binder soluble in an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon solvent is provided on a support. This thermal recording medium is formed by dissolving the binder in the aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon solvent and further dispersing the leuco dye and the developer therein to prepare a coating solution for the thermal color forming layer and applying the coating solution to the support such as a plastic film or synthetic paper to dry the coated layer. By this method, the thermal recording medium applicable to a railway ticket, a prepaid card or a POS label and excellent in chemical resistance, water resistance and heat resistance is obtained. |
