The invention relates to a bending machine for thin sheet and a method by means of which thin sheet can be bent in opposite directions rapidly without damaging the sheet surface, the design and function of the bending machine improving safety and productivity in thin sheet working. The method is characterized in that the thin sheet is first bent in one direction by pressing the sheet with a bending tool around a front edge of an opposed bending tool and by then moving the bending tools in relation to one another so that the tool which first functioned as the bending steady bends the sheet in the opposite direction around a front edge of the tool which initially bent the sheet. The design of the machine is characterized in that upper and lower tools both comprise similar bending members 1 and 2 and pressure members 3 and 4, the bending member and the pressure member having been coupled together with one another from their contact point or outside the contact point by means of a suitable joint. <IMAGE>
