PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication controller that can relieve a load of a transmission rate analysis of a node onto a host. SOLUTION: On the occurrence of a bus reset, a transmission rate setting means 123 sets a prescribed transmission rate and a transmission rate storage means 124 stores it. Then an SP extraction means 122 receives a Self-ID packet of other node connected to a bus 200 via a physical layer 110 and a LINK layer 121. The SP extract means 122 extracts Sp (information denoting a maximum transmission rate able to be handled by a concerned node) from the acquired Self-ID packet and transmits the SP to a transmission rate setting means 123. The transmission rate setting means 123 compares the SP with a transmission rate stored in the transmission rate storage means 124 to select an optimum transmission rate and to update the transmission rate set by the transmission rate storage means 124 as required. Every time the Self-ID packet arrives, the extraction, the analysis of the SP and the transmission rate setting processing are repetitively executed.
