The EGR (exhaust gas return) valve is electromagnetically actuated and is connected between an exhaust gas return line (12) and an engine induction line (14). The valve stems (20) have at least one valve plate (18) connected to a separate working surface (28) that separates two chambers (30,32). The first chamber can be connected to the suction line and the second chamber can be connected to the return line in order to achieve pressure compensation. One chamber is connected to the suction line or to the return line and the other chamber is connected to the surroundings.
