The invention concerns a cigar lighter, in particular for motor vehicle, comprising a removable heating plug (2) and an igniting element (2) comprising an igniting cartridge (4) wherein the heating plug is housed along a fixing direction and whereof the base (6) bears an electrically insulating bi-metal switch (10). A difference in potential exists between the cartridge (4) and the bi-metal switch (10) for electrically powering the heating plug. The cigar lighter comprises a safety tab (30) in electrical contact with the bi-metal switch (10) and capable of being electrically connected to the cartridge (4) in case of overheating. It comprises a safety contact (14) housed in the cartridge (4) and extending substantially transversely to the fixing direction. The safety contact (14) and the cartridge (4) base (6) define between them along the fixing direction a safety space (32). The safety tab (30) extends in the safety space (32) substantially transversely to the fixing direction.
