The guide sheath for the sterile insertion of a catheter or endoscope into the urethra consists of an elastically deformable tube (1) with a stop collar (2) formed at the proximal end to limit the depth of insertion. The distal end is closed and has one or more diametral slits (3). The latter are so formed that they remain closed, whilst the sheath is being inserted. When the catheter or endoscope is inserted the slits open to allow the catheter etc. to be pushed further. ADVANTAGE - Reduced inspection risk and reliable handling.
