PURPOSE:To effectively erase an imparted memory by irradiating an optical functional element with a light of a wavelength range for imparting memory properties and erasing a memory state imparted by heating the element. CONSTITUTION:A photosensitive layer formed by dispersing hole transporting low molecule compound having one or more nitrogen atoms in one molecule, compound having memory property imparting function in which the conductivity of the layer varied by irradiating it with a light is continued even after the irradiation with the light and electron absorptive compound having no memory property imparting function to be used as required in binder polymer is provided between electrodes, at least one of which has optical permeability to form an optical functional element. The element is heated to thermally alleviate mutual action of molecules in the layer to be eliminated to erase a memory. The heating means includes, for example, a method for containing an optical functional element in a constant-temperature oven, a method for bringing a heating object such as a heating head in contact, etc. |
